新年快乐!
This postcard is dark and hard to read. It celebrates Chinese new year which falls on a new moon, the darkest lunar phase. When I was younger my dad would describe the moon's darkness and brightness in his stories of living, fishing, playing, hiding, and surviving with his family in their village neighborhood.
In gregorian terms, the moon becomes new on January 31st, 2022 in San Francisco where I currently live.
