His work is about being resourceful and spontaneous. Usually, urban materials such as street rubble are used to create sculptures/installations that embody a Do It Yourself aesthetic. Furthermore, the process is dictated by his hand tool selection, physical exhaustion and/or imposed restrictions. The outcome challenges the audience to reevaluate their preconceived notions of which materials are accepted as beautiful in art.
Luis graduated from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Industrial design and minors in Art History and Marketing.
He is currently pursuing a Master of Fine Arts at Northern Illinois University, where he teaches foundations classes, serves as president of Delta Psi Alpha a multi-cultural fraternity that fosters diversity in the community, and is a participant of the Graduate Arts Association.
