This annual match is played between the Pentagon Soccer Club service members and the JSCSC team made of members of the British Armed Forces. The Donovan Cup honors Commander William H. Donovan, who was an avid member of the team and was lost on September 11th, 2001.
A match of pure camaraderie and fun is played in the afternoon, and it is absolutely unreal to watch the smiles on everyones faces and the immense amount of support coming from both teams.
The most astonishing part, however, has got to be the end of the game when everyone meets up for drinks and dinner. The stories I was privileged to hear and the connections I saw being made were indescribable. I only wish I could've stayed longer, or that the evening didn't have to end.
A tremendous group of incredibly brave and honorable men and women, I was so honored to have been able to be a part of this lovely day.
