Short Illustrated Animation

The project is based on a game devised by the Surrealists, called Exquisite Corpse.  The game is often played with drawing in which a group of artists work on the same image: each person will begin drawing where the other ended and is only able to see a small fraction of the image created by the person before. The result is a collaborative drawing, the product of multiple imaginations. We did a similar thing using animation.

For our animation, each person illustrated a minimun of 80 frames that needed to link up to form a unified animated sequence. A order was devised and each illustrator had to give thier first frame to the illustrator before them (this became the last frame of the illustrator before).

We each selected a human-made object that was significant to us: I chose South African 1 cent coin from 1961 that was made into a necklace pendant and worn by my mother in the 70's. It has since been passed down to me and I wear it a lot. The illustrator after me chose a ring and my illustrated animation therefore had to end in a way that blended into her first frame.
