The idea behind this project is the notion of memory and past conceived as a shadow of each one of us. Every event in our lives is attached to us and is an intrinsically important part of who we are. It is also a way to question the notion of identity and the way in which we build our inner and outer self as a response to the events through our life. Like the scars are a map of events drawn on the body, our psyche has its own set of marks and scars.
It include also personal thoughts (mostly are self portraits and portraits of my brother) about gender, social class, and roles as social constructs in which many of us grow up as a matter of luck, but even that random act defines us for good or evil.

As a lover of physics I can’t deny that the question about if time is real or if it’s only a human invention, also permeates many of my works. In this one I guess it is evident the notion of time as a series of snapshots that we experience like an animated film (it is fascinating for me that scientists employ photography as a metaphor for something so complex as time).

Photography, is a beautiful metaphor as a medium, for this project I especially value the kind of photography that requires a slow process for the construction and development of the image. A guiding hand that interacts with the randomness of the process itself.

It is also a display of personal pride being a mixture of races and cultural lore: From the Celtic and European roots of my dad to the beautiful Amerindian and African roots of my mom.

Two negatives, each one from a different photography, a single salt print produced with both of the negatives. Two slices of time frozen in a single layer of silver nitrate. Two events separated in the time for years or maybe just seconds but united in a piece of paper as a metaphor of how each one of us is a set of layers glued by our experiences through the life.
