SLEEPS

Itis a pictorial investigation centered on sleep, as the titleindicates. But not the sleepas the mind bridge to the world of dreams, but rather as a form ofalienation of the being from the flow of the world.

The paintingswere realised after models – friends or aquiantances-, but I wasn'tactually interested inthe act of painting afternature, but ratherin capturingthose uniquelyencripted momentsin whichthesepersonsescaped present time and space, leaving themselvescaughtin aslow and cumbersome leakagetowards sleep. These veryshort momentshaverevealed to me the real profoundness ofsleep, asa representationof thedissapearance and the alienation of therepresentedobject itself, despite the fact that theactual "sleeps(as a plural!)"donot imply theact ofsleeping, but rather the emergence of a maximum vulnerabilityof the inside, akind of preparatory"step"to our immersion intosleep.

Thecompositions were initially thought as rigorousdrawings. These eventuallyled to some rough color sketchesthat still show the initial gestural structure, confering a sort oftransparency to the phasesofthe creativeprocess.
