This serie is made of old postcards, from the countries that in the last years have seen the start of protests and revolutions against the main powers. These postcards are placed upon the photographs of these recent fights and their dramatic consequences in those places.

Here there is the effort to underline the dichotomy of the perception of socio-politic realities in the world around us.

These protests, coming from extreme poverty and deep problems inside those societies, are not growing now out of nothing. These are the results of years, decades, of abuses commited by dictators and oppressive state-powers (often with the silent approval from Europe and the United States).

Despite this harsh reality, these postcards were until recently the images that for many western people depicted these countries. The common perception was of beautiful places for holiday, with low prices and also luxury hotels, great cultural heritages and nice and welcoming people.

The overlapping of both these images is used to give the measure of the gap that can grow between a reality and its perception in the world outside it. The problems and dramatic effects of social injustices are lost in the common and shallow ideas and stereotypes of reality.

Questa serie di immagini è costituita da vecchie cartoline, provenienti dai vari paesi che hanno visto negli ultimi due anni scoppiare rivolte e rivoluzioni, sovrapposte a delle foto di queste attuali proteste e le loro distruttive e spesso violente conseguenze. Quello che si vuole qui sottolineare sono le dicotomie, a volte direttamente opposte, nella percezione della realtà socio-politica del mondo che ci circonda.

Queste rivolte, queste proteste dovute ad estrema povertà e indigenza delle popolazioni coinvolte, non sono certo nate negli anni scorsi, ma sono il frutto di anni di privazioni ed abusi dei poteri dittatoriali centrali in quegli stessi paesi (spesso grazie all’avallo degli interessi europei e americani). Nonostante questo, fno a qualche hanno fa erano le prime immagini a rappresentare l’idea di questi luoghi nella percezione comune. Meravigliosi posti di vacanza, spesso a buon mercato ma con anche resort di lusso, con ricchezze culturali e popolazioni pronte ad accogliere tutti a braccia aperte.

La sovrapposizione delle immagini dà la misura di quanto sia in realtà distorta e surreale l’immagine che comunemente si ha di luoghi e situazioni distanti, che per quanto spesso ben diverse e drammatiche, spariscono nella percezione diffusa e superfciale della realtà.
