The assignment was to create a poster using offensive imagery to convey a social message. Inspired by the satirical work of Mexican illustrator Jose Guadalupe Posada, I designed a poster to confront the issue of harmful cultural stereotypes. As progressive and tolerant as we'd like to believe our society has become, negative social and cultural prejudices still very much exist today. We've just gotten better at not saying out loud what we really think.
The original linocut illustration was screenprinted onto full-sized 24" x 36" colored paper. The posters would then be posted guerilla-style in strategic parts of Los Angeles and San Francisco to promote a hypothetical AIGA conference.
