Nearly six million seniors in the U.S. face the threat of hunger everyday. This not only includes seniors who cannot afford food, but also seniors who cannot leave their homes due to lack of transportation, and immobility due to disability or illness. The number of food insecure seniors is growing and is likely to get worse because the older population is the fastest growing group of the U. S. population. Meals On Wheels Association of America delivers over one million meals each day to seniors in need.
