Lower East Side
Branding, Logo Design
While living in New York City, I took on the enjoyable task of branding different streets found in the Lower East Side. Each design is based on the street's fascinating history with consideration to current day. All the beautiful photos of the Lower East Side were taken in 1942 by Charles W. Cushman.
Houston Street
Houston Street was named after William Houstoun, a delegate for the State of Georgia of the Constitutional Congress in 1787. His name was misspelled in official documents resulting in the current spelling of Houston.
Canal Street
Canal Street was named after the narrow canal built in the street's current location during the early 1800's. It's lined with historic townhouses and tenements which at one point were falling under great disrepair. This street is now bustling with commerce reflecting a very different direction from its past.
Orchard Street
Orchard Street was named after James Delancey's orchard farm which he left for England in 1775. This street is known as the center of the Lower East Side and heart of the immigrant experience. It's well known for its tenement housing accented with iconic brick facades and ornate fire escapes.
