ABOUT THE ARTWORK
In the way that he conceives and executes his images, Araujo is interested in various instances of mediation with the architectural space – whether the light and the landscape, or the reproduction of book pages and the visuality that informs our experience with the documentation of these buildings.
The works presented in this room are the artist’s response to a commission from Inhotim, for which he worked with aspects of the visual history of Minas Gerais
The exhibition that can be seen in this gallery is the artist’s first presentation in Brazil and features works made over the last four decades, in a true delving into her universe and thought. Mangolte’s oeuvre involves a series of recurrent questions that revitalize the idea of the archive: the relation with the model, the dialectics between photographing and seeing, the theatricality in the composition and the framing.
Titled amor lugar comum, this exhibition brings together nine works by Luiz Zerbini created over the past decade. Together the works demonstrate the intentionality of the artist’s painting practice, his compositional strategies, and his relationship to time.
Still Life aims to tell an old story from some fresh angles. The still life has been a central idiom throughout the history of painting. Whether gracing the walls of Ancient Egyptian homes, carved into Medieval furniture, embedded in religious paintings, or the central subject of a painting over the course of centuries from the Renaissance and beyond, still life has been a way for painters to examine religious themes or to escape them, to visually capture the sights and smells of daily life or to communicate the exotica of new worlds.
Na maneira como concebe e executa suas imagens, Araujo está interessado em diversas instâncias de mediação com o espaço arquitetônico – seja a luz e a paisagem, seja a reprodução de páginas de livro e a visualidade que informa nossa experiência com a documentação destes edifícios.
As obras apresentadas nesta sala são a resposta do artista a um comissionamento feito por Inhotim, para o qual trabalhou com aspectos da história visual de Minas Gerais.
A exposição que pode-se ver nesta galeria é a primeira apresentação da artista no Brasil e reúne obras realizadas nas últimas quatro décadas, num verdadeiro mergulho no seu universo e pensamento. Há uma série de questões em comum na obra de Mangolte, que constituem numa vivificação da ideia do arquivo: a relação com o modelo, a dialética entre fotografar e ver, a teatralidade na composição e no enquadramento.
A exposição amor lugar comum reúne nove trabalhos de Luiz Zerbini produzidos na última década. Como conjunto, as obras demonstram a intencionalidade da prática pictórica do artista, suas estratégias compositivas e sua relação com o tempo.
Natureza-Morta pretende contar uma velha história a partir de novos ângulos. A natureza-morta sempre ocupou lugar central na história da pintura. Seja como adorno de paredes residenciais do antigo Egito, entalhada em mobiliário medieval, como parte de pinturas sacras, ou como tema principal de uma pintura ao longo de séculos desde a Renascença, a natureza-morta é uma maneira pela qual pintores examinam temas religiosos ou fogem deles, capturam visões e odores do cotidiano, ou divulgam o exotismo de novos mundos.
