BRIEF: Your challenge is to choose a band or artist and create an illustrated response inspired by two of their tracks. In doing so, you’ll be facing this issue head on and demonstrating your vision of a brave new world for illustration.

MY INTERPRETATION:
This is my favorite track of all. It is about a man who dies early and finds himself in heaven. Upon entering, he realizes that he has too many things to do on Earth, and to go back and make it right he has to escape from the afterlife.
Matthew thinks it is way too early for him to go to the afterlife and he don’t think he belongs there. Heaven might be ‘a place of hope and no pain, perfect skies with no rain’ but then he is just way ‘too young to fall’. He hates the place and hence he decided to run, to escape from this afterlife. He wants to go back to Earth to have a second chance in life in order to change his bad ways.
CONCEPT:
Escaping is the main objective of Matthew and to him, Heaven is a distasteful place for him and hence, the skull here represents the Afterlife (Heaven) he is currently in, a place that is made up of texts and shapes. They also serve like a maze in which Matthew is trying hard to escape from it. The color red symbolizes sins and guilt of Matthew, in which he is trying to make amends if he managed to get out of this unpleasant afterlife.
