Asian Inspired Entryway Table

This entryway table investigates many themes seen within Asian culture and architecture. Through the repetitive nature of wood lamination, I have
presented the theme of two-dimensional patterns that are seen throughout this
culture and implemented this aesthetic into a three-dimensional sense. In
order to showcase this, the beginning focus of this piece was towards the
legs or base structure. It was a goal to demonstrate the ways in which I
could represent the nature of Asian calligraphy as the symbols have a curving
nature with crossing intersections. I also wanted to incorporate the
thinking within this culture of space saving furnishings, and did so with the
leaf that extends the surface top when not tucked away.  Lastly, I drew from an Asian interior that showcased large rocks under frames
of wood in the floorboards and incorporated this idea of displaying small
beach pebbles under glass to tie in both the aesthetics and cultural
reference to Asian inspired design.
