Mermay 2020 - Selkiegirl & Fisherboy

Selkiegirl & Fisherboy
Personal Project during (Mer)May 2020
One drawing every day
Selkie mothers don't tell their young ones tales about big bad wolves.
They tell tales of fishermen, bigger and badder than any wolf.

In this short story, I wanted to explore the folklore figure of the selkie in a rather modern setting. But rather than striving for a romance plot, I opted for a detective story, where a young selkie girl tries to connect with a lost member from her tribe who vanished on land - most likely taken by a vicious fisherman, who hid her seal-skin, so she could never flee into the waves of the sea.
But is that really the truth? Together with a fisherman's son who she saved from drowning, selkie girl searches the town - and finds more than she was looking for.
More little comics and the complete project is available on my instagram, @traeshaesthetics. Thanks for stopping by!
