THE FINAL VOYAGE
"AN HOMAGE TO GREENLAND"
"AN HOMAGE TO GREENLAND"
Visiting Greenland is a privileged but bittersweet experience. The sheer scale and brute force of nature out there is beyond comprehension. It's an immensely beautiful part of the world, but my mind often wanders towards the future and how it will look. The icebergs are sculpted into hypnotic patterns and textures, some of them so grand they almost come off as being artificial or man-made. Some become small islands of their own, with countless water rivulets and turquoise lakes. Others sail away on voyages that could take them across oceans.
However, the intentional marauding melancholy and darkness of this series reflects the fact that all of them face the same destiny sooner or later: one that is increasingly challenging and ever diminishing - they melt and becomes one with the sea. In many ways, for me this represents my tribute to the icebergs' final voyage. Their journey to their graveyard.
