Sauna Type Specimen

Sauna (Underware)
Type Specimen

Type specimen for Sauna typeface designed and published by Underware, a type foundry from Netherlands.  The dimensions of unfolded specimen are 148,5 x 42 cm, and the basic format is A5 which is the smallest possible size that it can be folded to. Concept of the specimen is to tell a story about early beginnings and usage of a sauna (heating room). This text about historical development of saunas was used to show specific possible typographic situations that are likely to occur when using a Sauna font. Therefore, specimen shows all kinds of layouts, such as book and magazine where smaller text sizes are shown, and on the other hand there are display sizes that may be used in designing posters and magazine headlines. Specimen contains all styles that appear inside a Sauna family and their relations in order to present the typeface as good as possible. Text sections are interrupted by dingbats page, page with character set and page that shows ligatures as something that would be most interesting to a potential typeface user. Front and back covers are made out of wood which associates the bond between the name of a typeface and the room that it got name after. On the front side there is laser etched name of the font and at the back are all the dingbats. Finally, specimen is packaged into a terry case, and ready to use!
