As chairman of American Defense International, Inc., Van Hipp leads a firm that provides strategic consulting services to a range of businesses and industry. Previously a Deputy Assistant Secretary of the US Army, Van Hipp also serves on the board of visitors for Charleston Southern University (CSU).

An independent, Baptist-affiliated institution in North Charleston, South Carolina, CSU recently graduated its inaugural class of 25 students in the university’s physician assistant program, a 2-year, full-time program. The cohort began their studies in January 2018 and completed their year of clinical rotations in December 2019.

After receiving their master of medical science in physician assistant studies degrees, the CSU graduates are eligible to take the physician assistant national certification exam, then apply for licensure in the states where they will practice medicine. In a spirit of service and gratitude, the graduating class made a group donation to the North Charleston Ronald McDonald House. During the graduation ceremony for the first cohort, the second cohort, which began studies in January 2019, received their white coats to mark the beginning of their clinical rotations.
