The Concrettas are an urban recycling bin collection which raises attention to sustainable waste management. The Concretta rubbish bin, bounded only by steel rods, is partly transparent on both sides. This helps to recognize the types of separately collected waste and encourages citizens to discard correctly. Labels and colour-coded bags further strengthen the communication, while the sideway-opening door makes it convenient to empty. The convex concrete case and steel elements provide weather resistance, durability and easy maintenance. Its scale and unusual form make the object stand out of its surroundings, so emphasizes the importance of proper waste disposal.

The starting point was a modular system. However, to reduce material usage,  assembly difficulties and vulnerability I decided for a ready-to-use construction. By eliminating boundary elements and adapting an organic form I gained a more cost- and space-efficient model. 

The actual functioning 1:1 prototype was built out of wood. The process only included traditional hands-on manufacturing methods such as working with standing saw, jig-saw, driller, hand-grinder, manual rasps, wood layering and bending.
