The Library of Barcelos, established in 1880 and now housed in the historic 16th-century 'House of Machados da Maia' since 1996, is a bastion of literary heritage and community enrichment. With its expansive and thoughtfully designed spaces, the library is on a mission to foster a love for literature and reading habits while preserving the cherished local history and literary traditions. Its treasures include a rich collection of local documents, encompassing monographs, reprints, booklets, illustrated postcards, photographs, posters, leaflets, and periodicals from Barcelos city, along with works by local authors.
Inspired by the library's serene ambiance and rustic charm, the visual identity reflects these qualities with a clean and calming design, creating an inviting atmosphere that beckons visitors to explore the wealth of knowledge and stories within its walls.

Logo
Logo design merges two key elements: a book, symbolising the library, and the letter 'B,' representing the vibrant city of Barcelos. By harmoniously blending circles and precise geometric lines, I've crafted a distinctive symbol that not only serves as the core of this logo but also plays a central role in the entire design system. Explore how this logo seamlessly integrates into a cohesive visual identity.
Protecting our logo's safety zone is crucial. Given its gentle nature as a symbol for the library, preserving its clarity ensures a warm and welcoming brand presence.
Color Palette
In crafting the color palette for this project, I've embraced a super monochromatic scheme that gives a strong sense of tranquility and rustic charm. This palette not only evokes a calming ambiance but also pays tribute to the rich historical legacy of Barcelos Library. Each shade has been carefully selected to harmonize with the overall design, creating a visual identity that resonates with heritage and timeless elegance.
