I designed an electronic publication (EPUB) of an MIT News article that was published in print and online. I used the EPUB to dynamically convey the article text and visuals with motion and varied page layouts. 

I stayed true to the existing look and style of the MIT News magazine by using type styles of the print magazine but adjusting typographical elements for screen reading. I also used a unified color palette for the article based on the large illustration, which was created by Jamie Jones. 

I made portions of the main illustration move, blink, and rotate to give the visual more interest on a screen. I also incorporated small elements of the illustration throughout the publication to create a unified design and add interest on pages that would otherwise have been text heavy. 

I recreated the graphs that were in the print and online article using a color scheme based on the lead illustration creating a coherent style between the article's visual elements. I also made the graphs larger--incorporating them within the text as a main feature--and used color and animation to draw out the main takeaway of each of the charts.
