Maenad Wines
Maenad Wines is a family owned winery in Southern California with a strong connection to their Greek heritage.

Client
I was hired by Liza and Chris Angelopoulos,  a retired couple that recently won a fortune from the lottery.  They wanted to use some of their money to pursue their dreams of creating a winery and their own wine brand.

Assignment
Liza and Chris asked me to create a brand and label design for their red wine and to make the design transferable to future products.  They also requested that the design represented their proud greek heritage.

Solution
I researched the art of Greece and took a liking to the artistic style of ancient Greek pottery.  Their recognizable illustration as well as geometric patterns are a clear callback to the Angelopoulos' homeland.

Maenad is the name used for the followers of the Greek god Dionysus.  They are often depicted on vessels similar to the one below, specifically on those that were used to carry the first wines ever created in Greece.

The Rapsani (red wine) design was completed and other versions of the label were tested on different types of wine.  All versions were named after traditional wines that Greece is known for.

The name Savatiano comes from a traditional Greek white wine.
Vinsanto is a traditional dessert wine. This recipe is a rosé.
