In the near future we will continue to improve our daily lives by surrounding ourselves with technology. Everyday products from the doorbell to the stove, to the bedside lamp are not only becoming ‘smarter’ to facilitate our domestic lives, but they are also shapeshifting to the common form of a flat screen. It is often overlooked that this creates a barrier for certain minority groups. This project focuses on the blind and partially sighted who are being excluded from these new technologies as they are unable to interact with the visuals based, flat interfaces.

es_sense is a wearable that aims to bridge this gap between the visually impaired and smart products without tactile interfaces. It uses haptic feedback to provide a whole new, more inclusive way of interacting with these products. With simple hand gestures the user can now use their smart objects around the house, without even having to deal with a touchscreen.
