Faculty Position:  Process Design—Design for the Web
Design for the Web is a first introduction to the online workspace. The web space design process is emphasized: thumbnails, wire frame layouts, layer comps in Photoshop before moving their designs into production in Adobe Dreamweaver. Students finish the course by writing HTML and CSS using Adobe Dreamweaver CC. The semester culminates with a fully functional site uploaded via FTP to the Assumption College server space.
Step One: The exploration of UX Design through the development of a site map. Step Two: the development and design of a wire-frame layout as the underlying structure of the design.
Step Three: the exploration through thumbnail layouts for the specific design elements, including focal point, contrast, hierarchy, color, imagery and typography.
Step Four: the selection and development of two full composite layouts for the home page of the website. The designs are produced in Photoshop. Once complete, the final design is selected, and assets are extracted from the Photoshop file to populate the root folder of the website and used in the final html files.
