While working for Pearson I was selected by the client, Boy Scouts of America, to lead the redesign of the Boy Scouts Handbook. The client was going through some very large changes now that they were excepting females into scouting and wanted to update their main handbook to show these changes. The covers for the handbooks are usually very photographic but we were able to convince the client that a more minimal and utilitarian design would work best given the changes. The original design took the dark scouting green as the background and all other art and text was to be a gold foil print with a textured UV print over the top to increase durability as scouts use these books while out camping. 

Since the male and female troops were to remain separate, the client ended up deciding to build out a second handbook just for the female scouts that only showed girls in the photos and illustrations. Part of this process included working with photographers and illustrators to recreate each and every image in the book to replace in the girls handbook.
