The monumental New York City landmark, Grand Central has turned 100 years old this year! To celebrate, the New York Transit Museum put together a wonderful activity for children three and up—an exciting scavenger hunt of the Main Concourse, that is rewarded with a free visit to the Transit Museum in Downtown Brooklyn.

I worked with the museum directors and education staff who presented the scavenger hunt idea with delightful poetry, along with a handful of fascinating facts about Grand Central. The challenge was to create a kind of guiding map of the Main Concourse that was based on the actual structure, but fun and easy enough for the child to comprehend and follow.

This legal-size half-fold print was first distributed at the Kid Junction in Vanderbilt Hall, during the Grand Centennial Parade of Trains event (May 11-12, 2013). It will continue to be used throughout the year.

I also did line drawings for children to color and create their very own version of the iconic 20th Century Limited (designed by Henry Dreyfuss). NYTM Kid Junction, Vanderbilt Hall, Parade of Trains, May 11-12, 2013.
