Digital Photography
This is a compilation of digitally enhanced photographic works for the 2010-2011 school year.
This photograph was for an “Inspired by” project.  We had to choose a photographer whose work inspired us in some way.  I choose a landscape photographer.  The two photographs I choose to present were taken in Park City, Utah.
These last 12 photographs are a part of my final presentation for digital photography.  To help better understand the pictures and why I took them I wrote an artist statement:

To understand my work, you have to understand my story.  I am an idealist, a romantic and I am also a graduating senior that will too soon be thrown out into the world to make my own way and find myself as an adult. Thankfully I have an army at my back, my family.  Home and family are the most important things to me.  Whether biologically or otherwise related, my family is always there for me.  They have taught me morals, values and humility.  They have given me strength, hope and love.  They have molded me into the person I am and will keep molding me into the adult I am becoming.

When I hear my sorority sisters talk about their relationship with their mothers in terms of two-second long conversations and the briefest of visits home during long holiday breaks only, my heart goes out to them, for they have no idea what they are missing out on.  When friends talk about their family being spread so thin and far between that they hardly see them barring major holidays, and even then it doesn’t happen very often, I get a little home sick myself.  I go home not only for holidays but also on weekends when I just need a break.  I talk to my mom several times a day, every day of the week.  I couldn’t imagine not being in constant contact with my family.

It’s funny how a house can go from a building you live in to your home.  It’s the warmth that it’s filled with by your family that makes it so. My mom first moved to Charlotte when I came to college and I spent so little time in our new house in the beginning that it simply felt cold and distant.  However, after being filled with mementos and years of love, before I knew it my house as well as the city it dwelled in became my home.

I live in south Charlotte, just 20 minutes away from downtown and surrounded by farmland and lakes.  My physical home has become as much a part of me as my family.  The tall, sturdy, beautiful buildings of downtown are mixed with rich landscapes and colors so vivid that at times it hardly looks real. This is what I give you. Photographs that barely do justice to the awe-inspiring world I live in.  This is my collection, my memories, myplace of safety and love.  This is my story.
