CITY.SYMBOL | Personal Municipal Coat Of Arms
A series of 45 symbols, portraying the various mythologies hidden in the urban landscape. The project contains 15 symbols for three different cities: Tel Aviv, Haifa and Jerusalem.

Undergraduate project in the visual communication department in Shenkar College of Engineering, Design and Art
Haifa
In Haifa, the symbols represent the duality of beauty and ugliness. A green/black color combination is used as reminder to the contrast between the natural surroundings of the city with the crudeness of its factories and pollution.
Jerusalem
Jerusalem’s symbols are a reminder of the violence which holds this city together. The color red was used to emphasize this atmosphere.
Tel Aviv
The symbols of Tel-aviv reflect the contrast between the city’s aesthetics and it’s repressed conflicts. The color blue represents the Mediterranean sea and its influence on the city’s atmosphere.

Process
Each symbol was created by first observing an element in the city space, and making a note of it. Then, isolating the element and finding a way to make work in symbol form. And finally, fitting the symbol in the visual language of the series.

Sketches
Various tries and sketches of different sketches, visual language and concepts

Research
A research booklet accompanied the project and was used a reference to the visual and conceptual world from which the symbols were created.
