Keith Haring Pop Art
The reason why I chose the movement Pop Art is because of the simple drawing and more animated looks. In the 20th century, there were many movements like cubism and fauvism but I really liked the idea of pop art being bold. Some of the characteristics of pop art is that the colors pop out, innovative techniques were used and mixed media were used. I chose Keith Haring because of his style and simplicity. I liked how he was able to make drawings simple and straight to the point. It is interesting that he was homosexual. Even though he never came out to his parents, his arts were very sexual. They use to call his boyfriends his bodyguards, due to the fact that in the 1980’s being homosexual was still a weird thing.

Some characteristics of my art are the bold lines and the different colors that do not necessarily match. The lines that I used are thick lines that help me separate the colors from the others and make my characters and background stand out more. The art that I did is abstract because it is not realistic. I used acrylic paint to paint it, ink to outline my piece and with some canvas paper. The design of my drawing is simple, it has two people that are posing and it is an easy and simple painting. It relates to Keith Haring’s art because it has the simple pop art design and it has the characteristic of the drawing where it has people in the painting.

For my painting, I put the idea of friendship. I painted my friends in this painting, and when Keith Haring paints, he tends to put the idea of people in these paintings. The relationships of people is something he takes into consideration and thinks of it importantly. That is why when painting this I painted my two friends but just in Keith Haring’s style.  It still differs from his paintings because I am able to put my important message and my own models. I think that my painting is a little bit more light weight than his, because his topics are more of a topic that are hard to talk about.
