Q. 1 What is the eligibility criteria for IIT JEE?
The aspirant should be amongst the top 2,45,000 in JEE Main 2020 Paper 1. The category-wise allocation of to2,45,000 candidates is tabulated below:

Age Factor: As per a current law from the Supreme Court of India, candidates do not have to meet any age-limit criteria to appear for JEE Advanced 2020. Applicants of any age can appear for JEE Advanced 2020 until further notice.
Number of Attempts: Candidates can appear for the exam only twice in consecutive years.
Appearance in Class XII Exam: Candidates must have performed for their 12th class board exam or equivalent first time with all the subjects either in the year 2019 or 2020. Candidates who appeared for JEE Advanced in 2019 are qualified in 2020 as well.
Performance in Class XII Examination: For admission to IITs, aspirants of General and OBC categories must have secured a minimum of 75% aggregate marks in their Class XII board exam (or equivalent). SC, ST, and PwD candidates should score 65% in the exam.

Applicants should be in the category-wise top 20 percentile in their Class 12 board exam or equivalent exam.
Note: If a candidate clears Class 12 (or equivalent) in 2019 but is writing one of the expected subjects in 2020 in improvement exams or for any other object, the aggregate percentage is determined to take into consideration the best marks secured in the required subjects.

Earlier Entry at IITs: An applicant should not have been admitted in an IIT irrespective of whether or not he/she stayed in the program) OR accepted the IIT seat by arriving at a reporting station in the past. The candidates whose admission at IITs was removed are also NOT acceptable to appear in JEE Advanced 2020.
Applicants who have been exposed to a prior course in any of the IITs for the first time in 2018 can appear in JEE (Advanced) 2020. The candidates who have paid seat recognition fee but not accepted the seat (by not reporting at any reporting center during joint seat allocation in 2019) are also eligible to appear in JEE Advanced 2020.
Q. 2 Are the question papers of the IIT JEE and Std. XII similar?
The pattern of the IIT JEE question papers is totally different from that of the Board. Every question is of a very conceptual type, and tough in nature, like a puzzle. The questions test the student's academic competence, analytical ability, sharpness and approach in several aspects of the subject. Board's exams of Std. XII are very straightforward like those of Std Xth.
Q.3 Will preparation for the IIT JEE disturbs the Std.XII studies?
The syllabus of the IIT JEE also covers the syllabus of class XII. Therefore preparation for the IIT JEE will not disturb the class XII studies. In fact, a well planned and well-coordinated work for the IIT JEE will definitely help in the preparation for class XII. Just completely focus on NCERT and follow it buy working on Sample Papers and Past Year Papers to ace both your JEE and school exam. A consistent effort, dedication and right guidance throughout the academic year will get you through to your goal.
Q.4 What is the right time to start preparing for the IIT JEE?
The ideal time to start preparing for the IIT JEE examination is right after your 10th class. The reason being the adequate amount of time left with you to prepare as there is no board exams pressure. Once you start early, the rest comes in the correct place. Early preparation brings self-awareness and a clear insight into your career. It develops critical thinking for sound competition. It sharpens the analytical ability for a strong foundation which will bear productive results in the long run.
Q.5 Are the JEE advanced / JEE main (NEETI) / NEET tough exams?
The answer to this question depends on the student’s ability, study method and hard work potential. For a lazy student, every exam is difficult. For a student whose mind is below a certain threshold, these exams are tough too. Again, for a student whose style of studies is not appropriate, these exams will be found to be tough. However, if the student has an above-average level of mathematical & logical intelligence, has sound hard-working potential (can study 6 hours daily) and is given the right method for well-designed studies, then these exams are not at all tough. On the contrary, such a student will enjoy the studies of these exams and acquire high levels of conceptual and problems solving skills which will help the student throughout his professional career.
Q. 6 Which college & Board is preferable while pursuing JEE / NEET studies?
There are many pros and cons of various Boards and JEE / NEET studies. However, it must be understood that these exams have syllabi which follow most closely the CBSE syllabus. However, that does not significantly translate into an advantage for CBSE students over other students as these exams have a far deeper treatment of the syllabus than merely what CBSE (or any Board) does. IIT-P encourages a student to choose any Board of his / her choice. The main point which a parent/student must keep in mind while taking a junior college, however, is whether the attendance requirement in the college is compulsory or lenient. Choosing a lenient attendance junior college is required to complement JEE / NEET studies as the student requires to study at home for at least 6 hours per day besides time spent in coaching and college.
Q. 7. Is there any weightage of XII Boards marks for access to any Engineering or Medical college?
There is no weightage for XII Boards marks from 2019 onwards. However, XII Boards marks serve as an eligibility criterion for access to all colleges. For example, the IITs, NITs, IIITs expect a student to secure 75% Aggregate marks in XII Boards to be eligible to join the colleges. Similarly, BITS PILANI expects a student to obtain 75% marks in PCM subjects to be eligible to join BITS.
