Although there are many factors to consider when choosing a jumping horse, breed does play a role in a horse’s overall ability. Following are some of the best horse breeds for jumping:

Dutch Warmblood
Great for both jumping and dressage, Dutch Warmbloods were specifically bred as a competition horse. They are a versatile breed that is suitable for low-level competitors and hobby riders, and are well-built and attractive horses.

Oldenburg
Another type of Warmblood, the Oldenburg was originally bred for use in agriculture. However, this shifted to competition and riding over the years. Not only are these horses powerful, they have a history of performing well at jumping events.

Thoroughbred
This horse breed is perhaps most well-known for its ability to race, but Thoroughbreds are also fantastic jumpers. They have great speed when needed, but are also extremely agile and strong. Further, this breed has great endurance.

Arabian
Compared to both the Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse, the Arabian is much smaller and less muscular. Despite this, the breed has plenty of energy and power to get over a jump. The breed is also relatively easy-going and seen in many equestrian activities, including dressage and racing.
