Design Action / Form-ation

Form-ation: Future is a story, that we are writing together. Despite differences, our actions can - and must - converge and evolve in a collaborative way towards a shared purpose. This identity perceive Design Action as an inclusive movement - from static to dynamic - which has the critical responsibility to shape our future. The final aim is not predicting the final shape but use design thinking and actions to face and overcome current and future challenges. The idea is that, being a part of a collective movement, every member would realise that present actions impact not only a single individual but others and the environment.

A modular design where each unit is going to represent a single person or an action. The units we chose are pixels as a metaphor for technology, being the basic unit of computer displays/images. The square at the same time symbolises structure, building, solid. It’s a shape that people trust, it indicates safety. We opted for a ‘hybrid type’ to show how each part of the type and of the action it is representing is made of smaller ones. We decided to use the colour orange, that according to colour psychology combining the strength of red and the happiness of yellow is an energetic one. Orange calls to mind feelings of excitement, enthusiasm, warmth, determination and encouragement. It is often used to draw attention. The pixels can also be connected to the columns of the ual: identity. The columns stand for ‘is saying’. We want to transform that ‘saying’ into ‘doing’.
We plan to ask LCC members what they are doing to shape their preferable future and the idea is to use their recorded actions and P5 coding to generate the main visual. These actions in present continuous will side the manifesto enhancing the idea of ‘now’. Finally, we think of the whole experience as an immersive experience, for example the team of students that will help the audience to learn about visual expression for participatory activities.
