The fan art was done in Illustrator, with the reference traced over using the pen tool. The pose was based off the signature scene of the episode "Pokémon Scent-Sation", while the background was based off the 1988 VHS release of Disney's Bambi. The VHS cover was also based off the "Les Tresors de Walt Disney" video collection released in France in 1987-91, and the Buena Vista distribution logo was used in place of the Disney logo.
