THE PROJECT
Last year, Brand42 asked me to create two videos for their client, Alfa,
presenting the benefits of Alfa Systems and Alfa Digital to companies.
Hope you like it!
FINAL EXPLAINER VIDEOS
We created 2 videos in the same style and similar flow;
the first was Auto Finance, and the second Equipment finance.
Had fun designing lots of different cars and trucks for each!

STORYBOARD
The flow underwent a few changes throughout the process,
but here is the preliminary board created for the first video.
It's always nice to look back and see how it all progressed!
ILLUSTRATION
-
COLOR PALETTE
Alfa's branding includes a pretty visually strong palette,
limited only to blues and turquoise, which I absolutely love!
So I first started with a very limited palette, and then played
with accent colors to show a bit of a range and possibilities.
FINAL STYLEFRAMES
The bold, colorful frames were favoured, although a little too out there for the brand.
So I toned it down with some grey, and switched to natural skin tones for characters.
VEHICLE DESIGNS
A big chunk of the illustration phase was spent designing lots of cars and trucks.
I'm not a huge car person (or truck person for that matter) so it took a fair bit of
research to come up with a good enough variety of vehicle designs for these videos.
And these just-enough-depth-to-make-it-feel-3D cars are super pleasant to illustrate!
You can also see each vehicle's smaller, simpler, UI-friendly sibling right next to them.
CAR DESIGNS
I first made a few easily recognizable types of cars, like SUV, sedan,
convertible, station-wagon. And then threw in a couple personal favs
like the Fiat 500, Tesla Model X, and my own baby Prius!
TRUCK DESIGNS
When designing these trucks, we realized none of us had a clue
which kind of building equipment would be needed at which stage of
construction on a building site. But hey, a bit of brainstorming with
the agency team and some fairly common sense goes a long way!
ANIMATION
The biggest challenge with this animation was definitely letting go
of my very best friend in After Effects, the Turbulent Displace tool.
It's like sprinkling fairy dust over those details that may look a little
bit choppy up close. Like a hip bone slightly popping outside the bum!
I knew from the start that they wanted a clean look with no wiggly edges,
so I did my very best not to have to rely on Turbulent Displace later on.
Here are some of my favourite animated shots from the video!
Thank you!
