MERZ
The poem that runs through the book:
I walked far down the beach
It is the moon solitary in the sky
Complete and round
With radiant lucidity
Standing back in reverence
Winding spiral staircase of thought
Set my mind on a journey
I started naturally
The search for solitude
Spiritually we have
THE GODDESS
As the ideal of
Inner harmony
Outward and inward man be at one
Center of a whole
To achieve harmony
"Copper Book of Merz Poetry" @ 1998-1999, the cover is created from soldered pieces of copper sheeting found at a building tear-down in Tribeca, hole-punched and held together with a series of binder rings. The cover also has a brass container from a Swiss Army kit, filled with perfume powder and shells from India. Attached also is a vintage photograph of a dog from the 1800s. The interior pages contain collages and "Merz" poetry created from the shards of paper left over from the Blue Book Series. The collage work is not only paper but printed pieces on acetate, film positives, acrylic paint, gel medium, sealing wax pressed with foreign coins, scraps of fabric, packaging shards and labels and various other ephemera. The blue glassy substance is an epoxy resin.
