2019 Birds of Paradise Adventure trail

This project is a scavenger hunt activity trail that would take place in UK woodlands aimed at families with children aged 6-8 years old. The purpose of the project is to get kids and families outdoors and develop an interest in wildlife and nature including the nature we can’t directly see in our country. The theme of the trail is Birds of Paradise that live in Papa New Guinea. This works as a novelty selling factor, as a chance to engage and learn about birds we can’t see in the UK. Their bright colours and unique features also make them especially engaging and interesting.

The trail includes:

 -   An ongoing picture book styled story to progress through during the trail which can be read together with children on the parent’s phone to encourage reading and helps invest children in the birds by seeing them as characters.

-   Markers of the birds around the woods to be found and showing the birds form.

-   Augmented reality to meet the birds in a 3D plane and see them animated which can be accessed by scanning the marker.

-   At the end of the trail families receive fact sheets on each of the birds so they can find out more about them, giving an educational benefit to the trail.
Poster explaining to be displayed in visitor centres to explain how the trail works
Map showing the next place to go to continue the trail. This version of the map would be displayed after the king of Saxony section to go and meet with the twelve-wired bird of paradise in the next section.
Refined pages for the King of Saxony section of the trail
Fact sheet for King of Saxony to be given at the end for completing the trail along with fact sheets for the rest of the birds.

Book Dummy for all the storybook elements of the trail.

The blue circle at the end of each section would display the map which can be enlarged by clicking on it.
