Infographic | Politics of Social Media
Visual Communication History, Research and Discourse

The purpose of the assignments was to select a topic and research quantitative data associated with it. Once this information was collected we designed an infographic to communicate our findings. Since it was an election year I decided to research social media numbers and its role in the 2012 presidential race between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney.
Design Problem | Middle Class Poverty
Integrated Design Media

For this project we selected an issue and research  methods to communicate. My topic was addressing the rise of poverty and government assistance in middle class and suburban America. One of the things I found interesting is the way families impacted tried to hold on to their formal lifestyle or hiding their struggles from family, friends and neighbors. I explored the idea of doors and hiding to show many "well-off" families can not afford food. One of the requirements was to use our surroundings for inspiration so I used photos of my own cabinets to use in my final layout.
Lyric Interpretation | "Rain"
Typographic Communication

Our professor assigned 2 songs we could select to compose a typographic folded book. I chose to work with "Rain" by Patty Griffin. After listening to the song several times I used the tone, shifts and character of the music and lyrics to design the books. The design could use 2 typefaces and no graphics and illustrations - the entire piece could only use letterforms and glyphs from the chosen typefaces.
