Magazine layout/styles
I looked around for different layouts in a commercial and independent magazine and compared how they both uses similar layouts within their issue. The layouts I was looking for was a series, advert and a single image.
i-D magazine renaissance
I picked up this magazine because I know i-d is a very commercial magazine brand due to the amount of advertisement within every issue. Also i-D showcases a variety of different styles of photography which I like , which doesn't bore the reader because nothing is repeated unless images are within a series.
Single image:
These are portraits of an American rapper A$AP Ferg, I was able to see a different side of him than social media due to the intimacy between him and the photographer. Also I feel like he doing for the "culture" with the first picture as it doesn't get showcase very often in a magazine. These two images have a different layout, one is a double spread and the is on one page I prefer the full image on page. I feel like the double spread loses a bit of detail/information due to the gutter in the middle.
Advertisement:
i-D has a lot of adverts within their majority are high street brands.
Series:
I chose the series of FKA Twigs on the pole because i was surprised something like that was allowed in a magazine and i found it quite refreshing compared to the other series I saw. With this I believe that she is trying to change the connotation of being a pole dancer which I like.
Tank Magazine:
Tank is different to i-D because it's not as commercial doesn't have much advertisement also their photography style is not as versatile either. Tank really didn't interest me as much i found it a bit boring but that's just my preference.
Single image - Double spread
Series/Advertisement - forgot to include what brand this was.
After looking back at the images from Tank magazine i have realised they mostly use a double spread layout which just makes the picture repetitive.
