2020 MLK Weekend Logo
Every year the African American Museum in Philadelphia (AAMP) host a weekend full of programs honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I was asked to create a logo according to the theme for the weekend, which was "Read, Write, and Resist!"
Dr. King valued education and saw it as a fundamental tool during the civil rights movement. I knew using an image of Dr. King reading would help drive the weekend's theme.
I found the above image and put it into Photoshop to give it a more grey, grainy effect (on the left). Afterward, I uploaded the newly cropped image of Dr. King into Illustrator. I knew I wanted the title to be bold and that it should surround the image instead of sit next to it.
I played around with different positions of the words "Read, Write, and Resist!", added in complementary colors (including the AAMP's branded color purple) and landed on what you see below.
