Lawn Substitutes

Good-bye lawn-mower
This design's goal was too create a front-yard that was lawn-free.  My response was too use drought-tolerant evergreens such as teucrium, lavender, blue oat grass, and carex.  Too increase the curb-appeal and client-friendly aspects, I wove curvilinear paths of 1/4'" minor gravel for the walkways.
Lavender and Teucrium were two herbs which were used to form some bones of this garden.  In addition, blue oat grass and Lonicera nitida 'Baggeson's Gold', were a strong contrast to the roses already existing in this garden.
Here, the curvilinear path is accented with flowering Teucrium and blue oat grass.
The entryway of this residence is heavily in the shade.  Too compensate for this, I used the carex 'Evergold' and the heuchera 'Lime Rickey' for year-round interest and yellow accents.

Objective of this project was too create curb-appeal and low-maintenance. This client specifically did not want any grass to mow.
