Built another replica Days of Thunder car, this one is Russ Wheeler's Hardee's Chevrolet. The 1/18 diecast, like my Mello Yello car features body damage and dramatic patina - as in the movie. Of the five cars featured in the film, fans all seem to have their favorite. Wheeler’s is my least, simply because he’s “the bad guy”. But, building this car means I have built a replica for each of the three main drivers. Build started with original paint on the diecast being striped, I then hammered/pulled damage into the metal and applied aluminum tape to create wrinkles. Primer and paint were applied followed by decals and race weathering. Decals we made digitally by me and printed on waterslide decal paper.
