FLYGIRL WWII WAS  a unique, interactive, graphic-rich journey back in time when Model T's were the main form of transportation and America was slowly coming back from the greatest depression in history.  Designed using  Adobe Digital Publishing Suite and Creative Cloud, this  "APP" shines a light on the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) of WWII, FIRST WOMEN IN HISTORY TO FLY AMERICA's MILITARY AIRCRAFT is a wonderful way to ENGAGE & INSPIRE both YOUNG BOYS and YOUNG GIRLS, because, 'if a girl can do that, so can they!"

VERSION 1.2 (IOS7) WAS ONLINE   with a special thank you to Karen Jones!

HOWEVER, when Apple updated its ios, ADOBE PUBLISHING SUITE became outdated, and my tools to update the app went away.   There was no option for an economical solution-- so, this wonderful learning tool has to go away.  It will rise in some other format-- might be in apple ibooks, but I'm leaving it posted as an example of what Adobe Indesign USED TO BE ABLE to do thru the Publishing Suite.   Thanks for the opportunity, Adobe.  Short-lived, but still very valuable while it lasted.

Included in the design of this educational app:
• Interactive overlays that include dynamic photos with pinch and zoom, panoramas and scrollable frames, html5 animation, and over 60 screens with multi-state slide-shows.
• WASP Across America:    US MAP with over 100 buttons.    Clicking  the buttons on the map brings up faces and video clips of individual  WASP
• Congressional Gold Medal:  The gold medal spins as it is ‘swiped’ showing both sides.  (The spinning Gold Medal looks fabulous on the ipad)
•Music or sounds that play as soon as the next screen loads or a button is pressed, causing the sound to play.
• Scrolling text frames on many screens.
• Complete WASP WWII Illustrated Timeline
• PDF articles of Public Law 111-40; Above & Beyond Tribute to the 38 Women killed flying for our country; “Passing it On” with inspirational quotes from 37 WASP and additional PDF's of original articles on the WASP and Wings Across America.
FLYGIRL WWII is created and designed by Nancy Parrish,  as if in the words of WASP Deanie Parrish, with her full support and participation. A wonderful way to learn about a missing chapter in the history of women, the history of the Air Force, the history of military aviation, and the history of America.
SELECTED SAMPLES OF  OVER 60 SCREENS ARE BELOW:
Follow young Deanie as she grows up in Central Florida and graduates as valdictorian of her high school class.  After graduation, using her pay from working in the box office at the movie theatre and a cashier in the bank, she learns to fly.  Watch the video clip of Deanie, sharing the story of her first solo flight in a piper cub.
On Dec. 7, 1941, America is changed forever by an attack on Pearl Harbor.  All over the country, radios carry the speech of President Roosevelt-- just click the radio to hear the speech.  Scroll thru recruitment posters, urging all America's to do their part, and watch the movie trailer urging Americans to buy bonds.
Eventually, the WASP training program is announced.  When she is old enough, she applies and is accepted into training.  She pays her way to Texas to learn to fly 'the Army way!'  Swipe to see more postcards of Texas!
Learn about the WASP training program, scroll through the photos and watch the WWII stock footage.
Of the 95 young women pilots who enter training as part of class 44-4, Deanie is one of only 57 who  complete Army Air Force Flight Training and earn their silver WASP wings.
After graduation, Deanie is assigned to Greenville AFB in Mississippi and eventually, transferred to Tyndall AFB, Florida, where she completes B-26 (medium twin-engine bomber) transition training.  There, she is retainted to fly B-26 air-to-air tow target missions.

After the WASP are disbanded, Deanie's story continues--WASP receive Veteran's Status in 1977 and in 1992, Deanie writes the first and only WASP rap song, "We Got The Stuff, The Right Stuff."   Song plays when the button is pressed.
Follow Deanie, Associate Director of Wings Across America since 1998,  as she travels across America, interviewing over 100 WASP.   Pressing on the green button brings up the face of the WASP, pressing the red button plays the video clip from the interview.
After starting the ball rolling  and spending 3 years writing letters and reaching out to Congressional representatives,  Deanie is asked to represent the WASP at the ceremony in 2010.  Hear her speech, thanking Congress and America for honoring the WASP with the Congressional Gold Medal--highest award Congress can award a civilian and see the photos from the event--largest ever inside the Capitol in US history.
Several great photos are panoramas--where you scroll up or over to see 'the rest of the photo,' including one Deanie on the steps of the US Capitol.

FLYGIRL WWII also includes Deanie's most recent campaigns to shine a light on the little known history of the WASP -- thru her speeches and interviews by PBS, the Pentagon Channel, CNN and Fox News. Additional resources include Deanie's speech,  on behalf of all the WASP,  thanking the Air Force Association for honoring the WASP with their Lifetime Achievement Award, and in 2011 her induction into the Gathering of Eagles by the USAF Command and Staff College at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama.

Flygirl WWII is a labor of love, created by this daughter of a WASP, who hopes that the lessons of the WASP can  encourage us all to 'fly' a little higher: honor, patriotism,  courage, faith, service, comittment, persistence and sacrifice.
