This year for the annual contest of the magazine Yorokobu I wanted to make an illustration about the meaning of this word, it means to be happy in Japanese.

I think it is difficult to show just with a lettering what Yorokobu is, that is why in this occasion I thought about making a background of many watercolours and combine them with a group of letters that I am developing at the moment. All this mixture of colours and the lettering together are the explosion of that feeling of happiness: Yorokobu!
When I started the project I was looking for little icons that for me mean happiness, for example: nature, the sun, a smile, the sea... I wanted to put them all together in order to emphasis the idea of Yorokobu.

I thought of another possibility; how to make the most expressive cover possible with the minimum lines and icons? After thinking over, I just left the smile icon in the center which is the universal image of joy and this I think it actives the whole illustration. The lines surrounding the lettering also make the artwork more dynamic.

For the back cover of Volkswagen I wanted to show how the brand has been renew it; the colour blue, the new bold logo, the new generation of electric cars.

Therefore I thought that is very interesting to create around the logo a world, this world is made of people, animals, nature, cities and roads that connect each other into one thing which is Volkswagen. At first I made the logo in the same style I designed the lettering with a bold black line. I believe it was too heavy, so I just left the blue colour and delete the black line.
Thanks for taking a look!
