An Installation Art Resembles My Family
I intended to do this project because I find my family very interesting, as the two sides of my family are completely different. My mother’s side is pro-Socialist, while my father’s side is pro-Democrats . My mother’s grandfather was a peasant and later joined the red army, while my father’s grandfather was a business man, who is a christian and immigrated to the US in early 60s. I realized that it was their experiences in life and family background that make them so different and even counteractive.
I split my family into two colors: red is the communist, and blue is the democrat. The tree branch indicates the growth of my family. The textile defines the inner connection between each member, and the hanging artifacts shows their different identities. The wheels not only refers to philosophical definition of fate and fortune but also brings the project a sense of layer and better visual effect.
This is the process and details of my installation art. I inserted pictures from my family album (showcased on the left) and utilized photoshop to give them different the color tones.
For me, I am glad that I was raised in a diverse family, because it was them who made me become such a compatible person.
