CONSOLE
Custom-built game & button mashing machine
Us By Night & APBC

We were tasked by Antwerp Powered By Creatives (APBC) to create an experience that would bring creative minds together on Antwerp / Belgium’s largest design festival most unique nocturnal experience, Us By Night.
Console

Thus we devised a unique game that requires no investment apart from sheer curiosity.
A beautifully crafted wooden console invites the strangers to each take place on an opposing side of the screen. Once two players have clicked one of the buttons on their side of the console, the game counts down and the battle starts. The players can now enlarge their sphere of influence on the screen by alternately pushing the buttons as quickly as possible.

This button mashing tug of war game ends once a side / colour has reached the opponents side of the screen. Sounds easy – but the battle can get really fierce!
The winner of the competition, or whoever decides he or she is the winner, gets a random tangible prize from the built-in dispenser in the console: exclusive mini artwork cards curated by supercollect.be, unique limited edition give-aways or even a free beer courtesy of APBC.
Design & Engineering

This lightning fast design and engineering project was enterily realised in-house at beyond.io. We started with a co-creation sessions involving all the stakeholders of the project that very quickly evolved to 3D concept drawings.

The enclosure itself was CAD/CAM produced and CNC milled for easy assembly.
At the same time the software development of the game got in full swing and playtesting could start.
About 2,5 weeks later, the APBConsole was delivered just in time for its trial by fire at the hands of the many visitors of Us By Night!
