I'm Not Cryo, You're Cryo

For this project, I was challenged to create two labels for a local Maryland craft brewery, Tall Tales, for their new flavors of beer. The first one is Jamm'd, which is a fruited kettle sour. For this label, I chose to go with a 70's groovy inspired design. I heard the name Jamm'd and immediately thought of going with a music-style inspired design. I chose to do a funky 70s design because I could use a swirly font and bright colors, which illustrate the fruity nature of the beer. The second one is I'm Not Cryo, You're Cryo, which is an IPA using cryogenically frozen hops. For this one, I chose to do an all over sketch type design, based on retro 50s and 60s sci fi comics and illustrations. I chose a limited, cool color palette, with a light blue, a light green, black and white. This one is my favorite out of the two and was a lot of fun to design. I drew hops falling into a freeze ray (i.e. cryogenically frozen hops) with two scientists looking in disbelief. This one gets across the idea of the hops being frozen in a new "futuristic" way by using the 50s sci fi elements, which are a lot of fun. For the font on this one, I used a handwritten brush sans serif. I thought it would fit really well with the overall sketchy look of my design. Overall, these were a lot of fun to do, especially because they are so different from each other.
