TYPE SPECIMEN
Giambattista Bodoni (1740–1813)
DESIGN STATEMENT

This project aims to delve deeper into the serif typefaces first designed by Giambattista Bodoni (1740–1813) created in the late eighteenth century. By exploring the typeface, I focused on producing a four-panel mailer that advertises the typeface using only the Bodoni's font family along with a poster in my type specimen at the back. The four-panel mailer measures 11 x 17 inches with the final folded size is 8.5 x 5.5 inches. The content of the four-panel mailer primarily aims to highlight the unique qualities and characteristics of that face, it shows off the Bodoni typeface in it's upper and lower cases, punctuations, numeral elements, and special characters, classification listing, it's type family and finally a brief background on the type designer and typeface. In the four separate panels, I utilized graphics to create special characteristics of letterforms to highlight and illustrate the unique qualities of the font. This is done by having large-scaled letters bleeding across the four panels to provide a sense of connectivity across the panels and with letters adding to the composition of the piece.
