Swing Dance Studio in Gdańsk

The aim of the design was to adapt a former industrial space in a historical building to a swing dance studio for Swing Revolution Trójmiasto.

The premise is located in a historical prussian arms factory (Königliche Gewehr-Fabrik) in Gdańsk. The adapted space consists of a dance hall, a chill room which is the space for social meetings of the community, as well as support rooms (dressing rooms, toilets, office). Esthetically, the goal was to keep as much as possible from the industrial heritage of the space- for example by re-using the hanging lamps which were used by the manufacturer who owned the space before. Also the concrete floors, except for the dancing hall and toilets, were left raw, only painted in a darker shade of grey.

The main feature of the dance hall is the possibility to divide it into two smaller rooms by using a folding acoustic wall. The curtains have both decorative and practical purpose, correcting the acoustics of the room.

The furniture to be used in the interiors is a mix of true vintage pieces found in garage sales and contemporary pieces, for example IKEA Metod kitchten.

As the budget is rather tight, all the works should be kept at minimum level. Because of that, the technology of choice were the dry frame walls and the existing walls were left mostly untouched.
