ISTD 2019
If not now, when? is a one page zine that folds into eight A5 pages, documenting an overview of student protest in South Africa. The reader is able to view the information as single page events or to unfold the zine to see all the historical events amongst one another.
A hand-made type design accompanies this poster, The Type Is Now. This typeface is created with the idea of immediacy and low-resources in mind as a nod to how protest banners are developed. Hand cut stencils are used to create a type set that is easily replicated and black paint is applied with an old dish sponge on top of the stencil.
