On the road cover redesign.

Drawing inspiration from my book collection; this time the autobiographical “On The Road” I set about to redesign this cover in such a way as to express how its content made me feel when I first  discovered it as a high school freshman. As with my first design I began by making a list of the important themes of the book. Themes such as the spirit of adventure, the freedom of the open road, and the excitement of discovering what may lay ahead.  Early on I knew I wanted to draw inspiration from the classic “Greetings From” postcards, however I felt like adding more Photographic elements to the work would cause it to become visually claustrophobic and might in turn make the title hard to read. I know that form should often follow function I knew this would not do so instead I manipulated a font from my library in such a way as to reference my inspiration but at the same time be clean and easy to read. I also made the decision to use high contrast colors in the text as a way to make them both stand out from the background and at the same time, be a color that I felt held an energetic charge similar to the excitement felt on a road trip.
