- Walls of Shame - Baobab Refugee Camp / Rome / Italy 2018
Baobab Experience is an informal migrant camp in Rome. The camp was set up in 2015 in a car park behind Tiburtina Station by activists and volunteers.
“This installation is my answer to all separation walls built in the world. Walls will not divide us, walls will not stop us, we will fly over them, free as birds. In October 2018, a wall was built around the camp. Out of fear ? Hate ? Or for security reasons ? I don’t know but I was affected by this new event as I volunteered during months at Baobab to help these people coming from far away to find a better future. This wall reminds me of some sad moments of our world history where the fear of others led to stigmatization and rejection situations, such as the apartheid or the antisemitism of the 40’s and the concentration camps where my grandfather was sent during World War II as a member of the resistance movement”. Protect people not borders! Breakdown the walls!
